Big Babies!

The baby vultures are growing up.  Mom and I think they're probably three weeks old already.  Soon they're going to fly the coop!

Arrivals

The baby vultures are here!  Mom and dad came back from their vacation to Israel and we checked on the nest and the babies are here!

Dad is saying he's going to name one of them Eaglet.  I don't think that's very funny.

Anyway, mom and dad had a great vacation, and after I looked through some of mom's pics from the trip, I found these photos ..

Apparently she ran into two pugs in a park in Jerusalem!  I am a little jealous that those pugs got to see my mom and I was stuck at home with Ranger and Flyer.  She sat and talked to their owners for awhile and apparently pugs are not all that common of a dog breed in Israel but all agreed that they are the cutest breed of dog out there, regardless of where you call home.

The Waiting Game

A few weeks ago we were exploring some old fallen down buildings on the airport property when this bird hopped out of one of the "shelters" and gave us his mean birdy eye.

Mom told dad that she thought it was trying to build a nest in the little fort it had found but it seemed odd because there was nothing in it that looked like a nest.

Mom and dad said this is a vulture.  A few days later dad went back to check and see if the bird was still living in there and it turns out mom was right!  It didn't really build a nest but it did lay two eggs!

So now we are playing the waiting game waiting for the baby vultures to make their debut.

CSI

Mom and I were on one of our usual hikes (security patrol for me but I like to let her think it's just for fun) around the airport when we happened upon this on one of the trails:

I immediately launched a full scale investigation and was about to call in the airport CSI team when we figured out what creature the bones used to belong to.  Do you have a guess?

After a hard day of work, mom and dad decided to take me to lunch with them at the Lightcatcher Winery & Bistro that is located near where we live.  They let dogs come with their owners if they sit on the patio for their meal service!

I was a popular guest that day.  Strangers at other tables were taking my picture .. but the best part was mom shared some of her yummy sweet potato fries with me.

After a great lunch, mom and dad went back to the airport to work on some more cleanup in the garage at the house on the property.  Dad found this super cool airplane and they thought it was funny to fly it around the yard and try and dive bomb me with it!  Didn't bother me .. I'm not afraid of anything!  I'm airport dog!

And these two are supposed to be pilots and this is how the airplane ended up?  I am pretty sure this was dad's bad landing.

Busy Busy Busy

I've been such a busy Pug these days out at the airport.  One day Bella the Rottweiler "puppy" came over and we had a nice walk on the trails together.  She's really sweet even when she tries to herd me!

So much is going on now that spring is upon us ... different plants around the airport are starting to come into bloom.

People are flying their airplanes more and more.

Every day is a nice day for a hike on the trails.

And there's always something interesting to sniff along the way.

And at the end of the day, I'm just dog tired from all of the fun adventures.

Smelly Stuff

Well mom and I did our usual weekend thing and walked the trails at the airport on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The weather was just perfect for hiking and as usual there were so many interesting things to sniff that I would often stop along our journey to smell something that caught my nose.

During one of our treks, we spotted some deer that ran off as soon as they heard us approaching.  Mom thought it might be a good idea to follow one of the hundreds of deer trails to see if we could find any more deer.  You can see some of the deer trails in this picture that mom took while flying over the airport property a couple of weeks ago.

Here I am trying to keep up with mom as we explore the deer trails.

The trails led us to a little canyon that was just the right size for a pug to explore.  I have a feeling mom is thinking about calling it pug canyon!

However, I think the best part of my hike was the very smelly spot I found on the trail.  I rolled and rolled and rolled and rolled and rolled around in it until I felt sure I had the wonderful stink all over me.  Mom just laughed and when I finally was finished she said I didn't smell at all!  All that wasted effort!!

All of that hiking and rolling around in smelly stuff makes me one tired pug.

Mom wants me to put up this picture of me in my Mardi Gras beads.  It's one of her favorites from when I was just a puppy.

Visitors

The day after my "Good Friday" we had MORE visitors come to the airport.  There was all kinds of food and flying and even some aerobatics.  There were so many people there that I didn't go a moment without attention.  Can you find me in this picture?

Sunday was an exciting day also, because Ranger and Flyer came on a walk with me and mom and dad at the airport!  Flyer and I are pretty good about walking off the leash on the trails.  Dad thought he would give Ranger a chance and boy did he take off running.  We tried to follow him but couldn't keep up with him.  Eventually he came back around and found us!  That was the end of his being off of the leash for awhile.  Mom says what's important is that he always comes back and he always gets a "good boy" for coming when we call him.

On our walk we think we finally discovered where the bobcat(s) .. I mean deer .. sleep!

It's near a little pond that mom says she's probably going to christen as Pug Pond.

It was pretty warm out on our walk so it was good to cool off a bit.  Then we decided to head back to the airport so we could check in on one of the airplanes that mom said she's going to take me flying in very soon!  I hope she ordered my Mutt Muffs!

A Good Friday

Friday was a great day for me, well, after the part where I had to go to the vet to get my yearly checkup and vaccinations.  Much like the President, as Airport Dog, I need to make sure I stay in tip top shape so I am always ready to defend my territory against deer, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, and of course, that elusive bobcat.

After the visit to the vet, we headed to Lowe's to pick up some needed materials for the ongoing airport renovations.  I like Lowe's because they let dogs come inside with their owners (as long as their shots are current and they behave themselves).

Everyone that saw me remarked to mom how cute I was.  Duh .. she knows that already people!  But I didn't mind hearing it again and again.

After Lowe's we headed to the airport and mom and I went on a three mile walk with her friend Letty.  It was such a warm and sunny day which made our hike even more enjoyable!  We also saw two deer on our walk this time, but again, no pictures.  Those deer are pretty elusive also.

When we came back from our walk we discovered that dad had spent his time cutting down a tree that was growing into the side of one of the hangars.  I immediately declared myself king of the fallen tree!

We spent the rest of our afternoon just enjoying the weather at the airport.  I even went for a quick swim to cool down!

Later in the afternoon, we had some visitors drop in.  A cool Stearman airplane that belongs to a friend of mom and dad's flew in.  And I also met two very cool little girls that were visiting with their dad and we all three had a great time playing together.  By the end of the day I was completely exhausted!

And that was just my Friday.  Saturday was even busier ... those adventures to come!

Trails And Tracking

Finally the weather has improved and I was able to walk yesterday and today on the airport trails with mom.

On Saturday we didn't see much other than some various animal tracks.

But it was great to be outside on a sunny warm day .. and there was so much interesting stuff to smell!

During Sunday's walk we saw three deer in a meadow and of course they ran off so fast that mom didn't have a chance to get their picture.  Then we saw a fourth deer run off down a deer trail that goes to the creek on our property so we thought we might have a chance of seeing it again if we tried to follow it.  Well, we didn't find a deer, but I did find a spot to grab a drink of water and cool off!

After we had hiked for well over an hour, it was time to head home for the day.
